Intel executive hosts pre-show conference detailing ultrabook symposium

Intel general manager of mobile platform business Navin Shenoy at a pre-show conference before the company's Ultrabook Ecosystem Symposium on July 31 in Taiwan, pointed out that the symposium will mainly focus on the third-generation ultrabook based on the Haswell platform, while Microsoft's Windows 8, touchscreen control application and ultra-long battery life will also be major subjects as well as topics about convertible design.

As for whether Intel will lower its processor price, Shenoy pointed out that the company currently still does not yet have plan for a price reduction, but is hoping to be able to raise them.

Shenoy also pointed out that there are currently 140 ultrabooks models that are in the middle of design and development with 40 models will feature touchscreen control, while 12 models will feature function to convert touchscreen with keyboard.

As for Intel's goal of achieving 40% of consumer notebooks being ultrabooks by the end of 2012, Shenoy also noted that the company still has not yet made any change on that prediction.

For the symposium in Taiwan on July 31, Intel will focus on new R&D innovation, while at the one in China on August 2, the company will focus on cost reduction and will invite many second-tier component makers to connect them with brand vendors, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
