There will be 194 million notebooks shipped
globally in 2012, decreasing by 0.8% from 2011, while the shipment volume will
increase by 5.9% to 205 million units in 2013, according to a forecast by the
Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC) under the
government-sponsored Institute for Information Industry (III).
The decrease in 2012 is mainly due to the impact
of fast growing demand for tablets, whereas the growth in 2013 is because demand
will increase arising from the launch of Windows 8 models and drops in prices
for ultrabooks, MIC pointed out.
MIC also projected global smartphone shipments in
2012 at 682 million units, growing nearly 50% from 2011, and to 868 million
units in 2013.
