The Black Friday peak sales period starting from
November 23 in the US is seen as a crucial market test for convertible notebooks
which combine features of ultrabooks and tablets, according to Taiwan-based
supply chain makers.
The sources pointed out that the attractiveness
of Windows 8 as well as consumers' acceptance of touchscreen features in
notebook devices will also become major factors affecting demand for convertible
notebooks.
Among the convertible notebooks, detachable types
are expected to become the most popular models in the market, and pricing will
be the major demand driver since the design is cheaper compared to other models
such as dual-screen, folded, screen slides or dual-hinge solutions, while yield
rates are also higher.
As for touchscreen control functions, whether
consumers are willing to spend an extra US$60-100 for such features will be
crucial.
After touchscreens, the sources believe voice
recognition will become the next major focus for the notebook
industry.
