There were 316,000 x86 servers shipped in the China market during
the second quarter of 2012, increasing by 5.6% on year. Of the shipments, 26,700
were 4-way units, up 33% on-year, according to sources from the server industry
citing figures from IDC.
For the third quarter, server shipment volume in China are expected
to have grown slightly on quarter with Intel-based platforms continuing to lead
the market, the sources noted.
The growth in the second-quarter server shipments was mainly due to
rising demand from the government, financial industry and telecom carriers of
China, the sources noted.
Several China-based social and search websites also plan to increase
their server purchases in the upcoming years.
