Asustek to offer Taichi at IT Month show in Taiwan

Asustek Computer is set to offer its new dual-touchscreen notebook, Taichi, at the IT Month trade show in Taiwan in December priced at NT$57,900 (US$1,992), higher than the originally estimated US$1,299-1,599.

Asustek's Taichi is manufactured by Pegatron Technology and adopts panels supplied by Innolux Corporation, (renamed from Chimei Innolux (CMI) recently), according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

The sources previously estimated the Taichi's cost at at least US$1,100, with the dual-touchscreen design accounting for US$300 of the amount.

Asustek originally hoped to price Taichi at below US$1,600, but due to yield rate and cost problems, the company is only able to offer the product at above US$1,900.

In addition to Taichi, Asustek will also offer its Zenbook Touch, VivoBook, Transformer series tablets, PadFone 2, ET2300 all-in-one PC and ROG CG8890 desktops at the IT Month show to challenge new products from Acer, Lenovo, Dell and Toshiba.

Asustek will also release an upgraded version of the Nexus 7 at the show adopting Android 4.2, with a 16G Wi-Fi model priced at NT$8,990 and 32G 3G model priced at NT$10,900.

As for its Windows RT-based VivoTab RT TF600, a 64GB Wi-Fi model will be priced at NT$21,900, 64GB 3G model at NT$24,900, and its VivoBook S200, featuring an 11.6-inch touch panel and Intel Core i3 processor will be priced at NT$21,900. The company will also offer its ZenBook Touch priced at NT$59,900.
