Kingston partners with ESET and ClevX for encrypted flash drives

Kingston Technology has partnered with security software developer ESET and ClevX, an IP development and licensing company, to enhance its encrypted USB flash drives for keeping sensitive government or corporate information secure.

The partnership will extend ESET's proactive anti-malware technology and ClevX's innovations to Kingston's secure USB flash drives for enterprises, according to Kingston. Kingston's DT4000- and DTVP-series drives can be customized with ClevX DriveSecurity powered by ESET's heuristics-based anti-virus technology, the firm detailed.

The partnership will also provide corporate customers with additional robust intellectual property controls, Kingston noted.

"Kingston continues to be a market leader in secure USB flash drives for corporate and government applications, responding quickly to market requirements and constantly evolving threats," John Terpening, secure USB business manager at Kingston, said in a statement.

"Portable media is a common source of malware infection," said ESET North America CEO Andrew Lee in the same statement. "People often carry sensitive personal files on their USB drives and they often don't realize that their drive can be infected when plugged into a computer, and then that infection can be transferred to other machines."

Corporate end users can immediately access ESET's malware protection upon initialisation of the Kingston secure USB flash drives with a strong password. Upon logging in and entering a password, the ESET engine scans for spyware, Trojans, worms, rootkits, and viruses, without conflicting with the host resident anti-virus software, then notifies the user to take action if malware is detected. It also provides automatic hourly updates when an Internet connection is available.
