Commenting on Qualcomm's investment in Sharp,
Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) chairman Terry Guo, on December
5, pointed out that Sharp notified Foxconn about the investment prior to its
announcement and he expects the partnerships between Qualcomm, Sharp and Foxconn
will become a new triangle chain in the industry.
Guo is optimistic about Qualcomm's move and
believes Qualcomm's MEMS technology and Sharp's IGZO technology can both be
improved through the cooperation, adding the two firms could even jointly
develop next-generation manufacturing technology together.
Guo also noted that Qualcomm and Sharp are
currently developing next-generation wireless communications products The
cooperation on technology development, added with Foxconn's product
manufacturing ability, means the relationship will allow the three companies to
all benefit.
Foxconn still has rights to acquire a 9.9% stake in
Sharp, and the two companies' agreements are viable until March 31, 2013.
Foxconn is expected to make a decision before then.
