Wi-Fi Alliance sets up branch office in Taiwan

The Wi-Fi Alliance on January 24 formally opened a branch office in Taiwan in a bid to strengthen cooperation with the Taiwan government and Taiwan-based Wi-Fi-related enterprises as well as provide certification and engineering support to member companies throughout Asia, according to alliance president and CEO Edgar Figueroa.

More than 50 Wi-Fi member companies, about 10% of all members, are headquartered in Taiwan, and Wi-Fi products sent by Taiwan-based makers to apply for certification account for two-thirds of all such products, according to industry sources.

The Wi-Fi Alliance has authorized the establishment of three laboratories to provide testing and certification services for Wi-Fi products in Taiwan. In addition, the alliance plans to set up a testing environment for new wireless networking technologies in Taiwan to enable makers to familiarize themselves with new technologies being boosted by the alliance, the sources pointed out.
