SEOUL, March 18 (Yonhap) - The price of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips has jumped more than 18 percent since the second half of February amid forecasts of a squeezed supply, data showed Monday.
The fixed price of DDR3 2Gb 256Mx8 1333MHz chips came to US$1.28 in the first half of March, up from $1.08 in the second half of last month, according to the data by market researcher DRAMeXchange.
After falling to a record low of $0.80, the price has been trending higher this year, marking a 54.2-percent jump from the end of last year. It also marks the highest level since it hit $1.31 in the first half of August 2011.
The data also showed that the price of NAND flash products is also trending higher.
The fixed price of 64Gb 8Gx8 MLC rose 6.8 percent over the cited period to $5.34, while the price for 32Gb 4Gx8 MLC products jumped 9.51 percent to $2.88, according to the data.
The price hike is in reaction to manufacturers scaling back production of DRAM chips, according to market watchers.
