The tech heavyweight saw its ranking rise two notches from fifth place in 2011 and five notches from eighth place in 2010, according to the report by the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA). The state-run agency compiled the data using Reuters Knowledge service.
The data showed that Apple Inc. topped the list for the third straight year, while Google Inc. came in second.
Microsoft Corp. and IBM Corp. saw their rankings slip two notches on-year to fourth and fifth place, while companies such as Oracle Corp., Qualcomm Inc. and Cisco Systems Inc. entered the top 10 list.
The NIPA said the data highlighted an emergence of companies that are leading the mobile and smart trend, and a fall in traditional IT firms that powered the PC and broadband era.
The agency projected big data, cloud and social services as some key factors that will determine the market cap of tech firms.
