Managed to post a small post-tax profit following two years of losses
Taiwanese hardware and electronics firm Acer has reported 18.9% decline in its revenues generated during the first quarter of 2013 to NT$91.97bn ($3.08bn) compared to the same quarter in 2012, while reporting a 9.4% drop compared to the earlier quarter.
Acer posted a profit of about NT$515m ($17.24m) or NT$0.19 in earnings per share, for the quarter, when compared to a net loss of NT$3.37bn ($112.8bn), or NT$1.24 per share, recorded during the fourth quarter of 2012.
The company's operating income reached NT$29m ($0.97m) during the quarter, compared to operating loss of NT$3.37bn ($112.8bn) during the fourth quarter of previous year.
Acer's loss in the fourth quarter of 2012 was mainly due to a NT$3.5bn ($119m) intangible asset impairment charge engaged to cover losses in the value of its brand rights.
The firm's first quarter earnings were mainly boosted by foreign exchange earnings and due to the sale of stock during the three-month period.
Company's PC shipments during the quarter declined 11% compared to earlier quarter while it expects that the shipment will remain flat or rise 5% during the second-quarter.
