Micron Technology has announced a new PCIe enterprise solid state drive (SSD) which it claims will improve overall performance in enterprise servers, appliances and storage platforms.
The new Micron P420m combines consistent performance with the inherent power efficiency of an all-flash system to deliver improved economics for enterprise data centers. The drive accelerates performance of today's demanding data center applications, including online transaction processing (OLTP), data warehousing and virtualization, Micron said.
In a MySQL server running an OLTP benchmark, Micron indicated that its new drive delivered more than 3,200 web server requests per second. "Micron's P420m ends the wait game for digital data. It features ultra-low latency performance that enables fast and predictable response times to information frequently used in data center environments," the company stated.
The P420m is a vertically-integrated solution using Micron's custom ASIC controller, 25nm MLC NAND flash, DRAM, firmware, and drivers. It also implements Micron's XPERT (extended performance and enhanced reliability technology) for improved performance and reliability.
The new Micron P420m comes in a half-height, half-length form factor for rack-mounted servers, and also in a 2.5-inch format. The drive will be available in 350GB, 700GB and 1.4TB capacities.
Micron is currently sampling the P420m with production expected to begin in June 2013.
