Microsoft and Intel will offer assistance to first-tier vendors to
promote sales of Windows 8 touch-controlled notebooks in the US during the
year-end peak sales period, with retail prices for 11.6-inch models possibly to
be lowered to US$399, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
Because demand for Windows 8-based notebooks is expected to be
impacted by notebook brand vendors dropping prices of their Windows 7-based
models, Microsoft and Intel are concerned about the issue and have decided to
provide assistance to the notebook vendors to promote their Windows 8
products.
