Samsung unlikely to increase notebook ODM orders in 2013, say Taiwan makers

In response to reports that Samsung Electronics plans to increase notebook ODM orders to Taiwan in 2013, Taiwan-based supply chain makers indicated that this is quite unlikely since the current trend is vendors have started taking back R&D and manufacturing rights from their ODMs to regain control over their product development.

Compal Electronics is expected to remain as Samsung's major Taiwan-based ODM in 2013, the sources noted.

Samsung will ship about 13 million notebooks in 2012 and aims to ship 17 million units in 2013, the sources indicated.
