Samsung investment in Sharp may trigger Foxconn-Samsung partnership, say market watchers

Although most market watchers expect Samsung Electronics' investment in Sharp to affect Sharp's relationship with Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), some market watchers believe that the investment may become a chance for Foxconn to cooperate with Samsung.

Sharp has confirmed that Samsung will invest JPY10 billion to acquire 3% of the Japan-based maker's shareholdings, while Samsung has noted that the investment is meant to secure a stable LCD panel supply source.
Since Foxconn chairman Terry Guo has reportedly been studying Korea-based enterprises, and Guo's criticism of Samsung's strategies have started to lessen recently, the sources believe these are both signs showing that a Foxconn-Samsung partnership may be realized in the future.

The sources pointed out that Foxconn's past hostile attitude toward Samsung is mainly to show support of its major client Apple and partly because of national sentiment, but the two firms hardly have any direct competition.
